Frequently Asked Questions
What Game Development Programs Do You Offer?
We currently teach game development using Construct and Unity.
Construct Game Development
We start students with Construct, a beginner-friendly, drag-and-drop platform that lets them see results quickly. This helps them learn game logic, problem-solving, and design principles without being overwhelmed by complex coding.
Unity Game Development
As students advance, we introduce Unity, the professional industry-standard game engine. Unity challenges students to plan, debug, and iterate on more sophisticated games, fostering persistence, logical thinking, and deeper coding skills.
Students learning Construct or Unity typically create their own projects, and many go on to participate in the Congressional App Challenge, earning awards for their innovative work.
By progressing from Construct to Unity, students follow a structured learning path that balances early wins with long-term skill development, keeping them engaged while strengthening problem-solving, creativity, and coding confidence.
Can My Child Learn Minecraft or Roblox Modding at Btree?
While Minecraft and Roblox are very popular and fun, they are not always the most efficient platforms for learning programming fundamentals. In our experience, the line between playing and coding can become blurred, especially for younger students. This can lead to distractions and limit the development of critical coding skills, like logical thinking, problem-solving, and debugging.
Therefore, we typically recommend more structured environments, like Construct or Unity, where students focus on creating games from scratch. These platforms give immediate feedback while teaching strong coding foundations, helping students build the skills they need for more advanced projects and competitions.
